The opening sequences, with overhead shots of the Indian countryside contrasting with images of a train cutting into it, gesture towards the dialectical relationship between rural poverty and urban development.

Lion is one of those movies and more so, it is one of the best movies of 2016. It is the heartwarming film that friends and critics alike have fallen in love with and told you to go see. It has earned Best Picture nominations at the Golden Globes and the Critics’ Choice Awards, as well as two nominations at the Screen Actors Guild Awards. And yet, Lion, which is now in theaters, hasn't taken home a trophy at any of these high-profile award shows. Now up for six Academy Awards later this month, including a nomination for Best Picture, the film may still go home empty-handed, despite critical acclaim and standout performances by Dev Patel and Nicole Kidman.

I think this is due to the straightforward linear narrative without any voice-over narration that allows the audience to experience everything without really knowing where it's headed. Yet he has to learn to live with himself, as he fights his own demons. Meridith Baxter Birney plays the mother who can't believe she didn't know the man she loved dearly was abusing their daughter. She comes to understand her circumstances as she cries out to her own mother when she realizes she has "forgotten" her own abuse. The movie on a whole is slow and shallow and the 'technique' of filming the mother's therapy sessions as interviews makes it look fake. The daughter's feeling are not looked at in depth, but the focus on the parents makes the message come across.
"[They're] fantastic. I just talked to yesterday. A lot of people in that situation, it's not as fluid as it is for us," he said. " have come out to Australia a few times. It's great. We all get along very, very well." Lion is based on a true story that is both incredibly uplifting and heartbreaking. We believe that everyone deserves access to clear, factual information that helps them educate themselves on the issues of the day and the things that pique their curiosity.
